About The Moldova Project

Who We Are

The Moldova Project (TMP) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and supporting at-risk families across the Republic of Moldova. Founded in 2008 by three young women – one Moldovan and two British – TMP was born from a strong belief that every child deserves dignity, safety, and a real chance at a better future.

Over time, our mission has grown beyond individual family support. While children remain at the heart of everything we do, our work now addresses the root causes of vulnerability through community-level interventions. From creating child-friendly spaces in schools, to organizing campaigns, improving infrastructure, and training local service providers – TMP works to strengthen entire communities, not just individual households.

What began as a grassroots initiative has become a respected partner for both state institutions and international organizations working in the fields of child protection, social assistance, and humanitarian aid.

Our Core Values

Moldova is a small country with a big heart. Hidden between Romania and Ukraine, it is home to about 2.5 million people, most of them living in rural communities where traditions are strong and neighbors still know each other by name. It is a country of warm hospitality, rolling hills, and families who share generously—even when they have very little.

But behind this beauty lies a quieter truth. Around 1 in 3 children in Moldova faces some form of poverty or social vulnerability. In many villages, families struggle with limited access to healthcare, psychological support, and early childhood development services. Over 1 million Moldovans now live and work abroad, leaving many children in the care of grandparents or relatives. This creates emotional gaps that no statistic can fully describe.

Every day, communities, local leaders, volunteers, and organizations work to build something better. The Moldova Project stands alongside them, supporting families who want to protect their children, stay together, and break the cycle of vulnerability.

This is Moldova: A country rich in soul, challenged by inequality, but moving forward through resilience and kindness.
A place where even a small act of support can change the future of a child—and sometimes, an entire family.

Recent national and international data reveal the depth of the challenges many Moldovan families still face, especially in rural areas, where poverty, limited services, and social risks continue to shape daily life.
